Lesson 10 - How to stop getting ghosted
This is the most effective way to get clients to respond to you after discovery calls.
Because this happens all the time:
You get on a discovery call
They ask for a project pitch or quote
You make that
You send it over
You hear nothing
You follow up (the wrong way)
They don’t get back to you
The process repeats itself
This is because you aren’t communicating your constraints the right way, and you aren’t following up in a way that drives action from your potential client.
So, here are the three emails you need to send if your client is ghosting you about a project.
Email 1 (follow-up)
This is your standard follow up. After a day or two of silence, simply email your client, “Hey there, just following up to hear your thoughts on these packages. Let me know if you have any questions.”
Email 2 (breadcrumbs)
If your client still isn’t responding after the first follow up, then you can start dropping some breadcrumbs to help them get back to you. There is one big reason why your client isn’t getting back to you: the budget is too high. So, you can say something like “Hey there, I wanted to let you know there’s some flexibility on budget and deliverables if this doesn’t feel like the perfect fit. Let me know what you need, and we can chat.”
Email 3 (off the table)
If your client still isn’t responding, it may be because they’re putting your offer on ice as they try to find a better deal. They’re in “collector” mode if this happens, trying to get as many options as they can. But if you make them feel like one of their options might be going away, they’ll respond to you right away. It’s crazy how well this works. In a third email, say this and this exactly. “Hey there, I’m finalizing my calendar for the next month—is this project off the table for you?”
The client will email back within minutes. Honestly, it works that well. If they feel like your offer might go away, they’ll respond right away, and let you know the real reason why they haven’t gotten back to you. Then you can make one more push to close the deal.
This three-email sequence will greatly increase your responses from client show are ghosting you.
Well, that’s the end of the course. Thanks so much for digging into this with me. If you’re wondering “where do I go from here,” you already know what I’m going to say.
