Success is hiding in the things you’re not willing to do

The things you’re not willing to do are precisely the things you need to do to level up. I’m not saying you need to abandon all morals in order to be successful, but you might need to abandon a bit more of your ego.

When I started my social media journey, I made a list of the things I wasn’t going to do. I wasn’t going to dance. I wasn’t going to use clever hooks. I was going to let my work speak for itself. Then I realized how much good hooks help to spread the work about my work. And I suddenly became willing to do them.

I resisted using good social strategy because I felt moral superiority if I didn’t. But I was confusing my morals with my ego. I didn’t want to have to try so hard. I wanted my success story to be easy. I didn’t want to have to sweat to spread the word. That was just my ego talking, aiding the resistance in doing the things that actually helped me level up.

There are things you’re resistant to doing. Maybe it’s getting rejected, maybe it’s releasing something that isn’t a hit. You may be able to justify this resistance through some definition of morality, but in reality, it’s probably just you protecting your ego.
