Five minutes of motivation

If it seems like someone has everything figured out, go look under their bed. If it looks like someone has their life all together, look at their inbox. Everyone either has a mess hidden somewhere, or they have help.

We all have corners of our lives that don’t receive the attention they deserve. If someone looks like they’re killing it, winning at every aspect of life, they’re probably not. This is true for me. I try to portray an easy-going demeanor on social media that feels successful. Meanwhile, my laundry goes unfolded for days, or weeks. I have a lot of clothes that need to go to the dry-cleaner. I still haven’t gotten TSA Pre-Check.

A new method I’ve been trying recently is delaying gratification by five minutes. I don’t need to have the whole house in order before I enjoy myself. If I want to do something, like play video games or watch TV, I try to identify one corner of my life that would benefit from five minutes of attention. This isn’t hard. I can look around my apartment, and see tons little cleaning opportunities, like dishes, dusting, or vacuuming.

Here’s to little motivation hacks, and here’s to my life looking a little more like I portray it online.
