How to make artist friends
There are two ingredients necessary for people to become fast friends: a shared goal, and a common language.
I discovered this when I ran content workshops with Jeremiah Davis and Jacob Riglin in 2018. I worked tirelessly to design a premium experience for guests of the workshops. What I didn’t plan for was this: people just wanted to sit and talk to each other.
Everyone on those workshops had a shared goal. They wanted to improve their photography and videography, and capture beautiful locations. They also had a shared language. Cameras, lenses, editing software. Even though we had sunrise shoots in the mornings, guests still stayed up after midnight, talking and creating together.
I knew I wanted to incorporate shared goals and common language into the Creative Consistency Challenge. Beyond any experience you can design, or any value you can bring, human connection is what’s priceless. I knew we had something special when one of the members told me "I enjoyed seeing what everyone in the Challenge created, and I actually made many pals!"
Fast friends. The Creative Consistency Challenge brings together people who are done with their excuses. They’re over their “maybe tomorrow.” They just want to create every day. This is the shared goal. The common language comes just as it does when artists connect in any forum—feedback, encouragement, ideas, inspiration.
