Paradoxes are everywhere
Paradoxes are everywhere. So are catch-22s.
When you think you’re accurate, that’s when you neglect to double check your work, so you make a mistake.
When you think you’re wise, that’s when you fail to pause and think, so you do something foolish.
When you think you’re humble, that’s when you assume a privilege, so you overstep or say something hurtful.
I watched the movie Conclave the other day. In it, the main character gives a short monologue about “the sin of certainty.” How simple and delicious it is to approach our relationships and work and culture with a strong sense of certainty. But how dishonest is that?
The ones with qualities we admire most never claim them. Maybe there’s a reason for that.
