A simple marketing strategy for freelancers (5 hours per month)
Visibility is a crucial part of the sales process for any business. It’s why the biggest companies in the world plaster their products on billboards. It’s why retailers pay exorbitant rent to have a store on a hip city street. And it’s why freelancers should find a content posting schedule that they can execute week in and week out.
If you’re a freelancer, and you keep your portfolio on a social platform like Instagram or LinkedIn, you should find a way to post once a week. That may not be enough to make your account “blow up,” but it is enough to consistently remind your current network that you exist.
If you’re a freelancer, you should find a way to follow up on email with your warm leads at least every quarter. Ideally, every month. This may not be enough to become a “thought leader” online, but it will be enough to keep you top of mind for any opportunities you might be a good fit for.
These are just two small actions we can take as freelancers that greatly improve our visibility. In fact, it may be the highest ROI work you do as a freelancer. Think about it: if posting takes you 1 hour per week, and a monthly email takes you one hour per month, that’s 64 hours per year. If that books you even just two additional jobs at $3,000 each, you’re making nearly $100 per hour on your marketing efforts.
