Information is power

Information is power—decision-making power. The more information we have, presumably the easier it is to make the right choices. Then why does it feel like the more information we consume online the harder it becomes to decipher who is right and who is wrong; who is good and who is evil?

The truth is, we don’t need more information. We need more information from people we trust. We need information that shows its work and cites its sources. We need that information from people who also have something to lose, just like we do.

If those three components are in place you can be confident it’s helpful information. Does the information-giver show you how they drew their conclusion? Do they show you evidence to support it? Are they honest about its potential shortcomings? And, perhaps most importantly, do they have something to lose if they’re wrong?

Good luck with your decisions in 2026.
