One for them, one for me
Many people attribute the “one for them, one for me” approach to Martin Scorsese. Make one blockbuster movie for the studios, then make your next film about a topic near and dear to your heart. Looking back at their discography, I see Coldplay has followed this format, too. They’ve maintained sustained success over a quarter-century, and have a raving fanbase around the world.
Could this be a healthy model for social content as well? So many creators get burned out by the algorithm-serving, vitality-chasing style of content that must be created in order to grow. After months of this, it’s no wonder they quit. But maybe creating “one for them, and one for me” could be sustainable? This approach would give your account a real chance at growth, and would help turn quick followers into long-time fans, by sharing what you really care about with them.
It’s the hits that helps Coldplay dominate the radio, but the deep cuts create fans for a lifetime. Scorsese made as many blockbusters as anybody, but it’s the personal films that make the greatest actors in the world want to work with him.
