Why collaboration matters

The reason creative collaboration is so wise is not because people will tell you things you don’t already know. It’s important because they help you believe things that are so easy to forget.

When pitching a client alone, especially a big budget, it’s easy to get in your head. It’s easy to talk yourself down, or to play it safe, instead of believing in your process and vision. But with a creative collaborator, especially someone who has less stake than you, they can help you keep your head on straight. They can remind you that your work is good, and that you should pitch big, and that you should be confident.

If you don’t have a consistent creative collaborator, you should at least find another freelancer friend who is willing to pick up the phone when you call. They can bounce ideas with you, and encourage you to believe in the things you already know.
